“Out to sea… // I mentioned before that these wreath paintings for SEED VAULT were partially inspired by transoceanic rafting, a concept which is as lonely-feeling to me as it is hopeful… I couldn’t get it out of my head last year as we watched our personal territories contract and the walls of our apartments expand to delineate almost our entire universes, little islands of safety shut off against the new and very few world of pandemic. It’s hard to look at the calendar and realize, just as we here in Germany are squeezing ourselves back into our own little isolated seedpods during another heavy lockdown, that we’ve been at this for a year.
